David de Gea is considered to be “the best goalkeeper in the world” by Manchester United team-mate Ashley Young, while Nemanja Matic believes he is “great” and Ander Herrera says a fellow Spaniard is “terrific”.Such lavish praise has been bestowed upon the Red Devils’ No. 1 following another match-winning performance against Tottenham.

Marcus Rashford may have netted the only goal of the game at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, but it was De Gea’s 11 saves at the opposite end of the field which wrapped up all three points.

It is not the first time that the 28-year-old has delivered such a showing for United and his obvious value to the collective cause is not lost on those around him.Young told reporters after witnessing a talismanic display which helped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to a sixth successive victory as Red Devils boss: “I think that is why he's No. 1 in the world. For me, he's the best goalkeeper in the world.

“He's obviously saved us at times, and I said to him after the game 'You could have caught the ball a couple of times!'. But he was blocking things with his feet, his hands, and, at times, I think with his head as well!”

Matic echoed those sentiments, with the Serbian midfielder saying: “He was great like always.“We said in the changing room this is normal for us when we see David playing like this.

“It is very important to have him. He gives us confidence. He's saved us many times. I think everyone did very well but for me, he was man-of-the-match.”

De Gea has been a model of consistency for United over recent years, with his exploits earning him a record-breaking haul of four Player of the Year awards.

Those in front of him have started to raise their standards of late, though, with the arrival of Solskjaer as interim manager having breathed new life into an underperforming squad. The likes of Rashford and Paul Pogba are now flourishing, with midfield dynamo Herrera eager to point out that it was not just De Gea who contributed to a priceless victory over Spurs.

He told MUTV: “Until the minute 60 we could have been winning 2-0, but we didn't because we missed a couple of chances.“After that it was David, it was David! He is the number one. I have never seen something like this. It is something terrific, as you say.

“The only thing we can do is enjoy David and enjoy the attacking players we have because they are doing amazing work.”

Spurs confirm Kane sidelined for at least six weeks with ankle injury

Tottenham have confirmed that Harry Kane will be out for at least six weeks following an ankle injury picked up in the weekend's 1-0 loss to Manchester United."Following preliminary assessments, we can confirm that Harry Kane has damaged ligaments in his left ankle, sustained during Sunday's match," a club statement read.

"He will continue to be monitored by our medical staff as he commences rehabilitation and is expected to return to training in early March."

After the United match, Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino admitted he was "worried" about his star striker, who was forced off near the end of the game at Wembley. And Pochettino's fears have now been realised, as Kane appears set to miss a significant amount of the rest of the season.Spurs' defeat to United on Sunday was a significant blow to their title hopes with the club now in third place, nine points behind table-topping Liverpool.

And Kane's absence will be an arguably bigger hit to Pochettino's side, with the 25-year-old in the midst of another prolific campaign and Heung-min Son currently on international duty at the Asian Cup with South Korea.

Kane is the co-leader in Premier League goals this season with 14, tied with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mohamed Salah atop the league's scoring chart.

Overall, Kane has 20 goals in 31 appearances in all competitions for Spurs this season.Kane is also likely to miss both legs of Tottenham's Champions League last-16 tie against Borussia Dortmund.

The first leg of the tie will take place February 13 at Wembley, with the return leg set for March 5 at Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund.

‘Man Utd have the firepower to rival anybody’ – Giggs sees spark back under Solskjaer

The firepower at Manchester United’s disposal “rivals any team within the Premier League”, claims Ryan Giggs, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer having helped to rekindle the club’s spark.

The Red Devils stood accused of having deserted their attacking principles during Jose Mourinho’s time at the helm, with the Portuguese considered to favour a more defensive mindset. He paid the price for that approach with his job, with United having suffered a humbling tumble down the English top-flight table in 2018-19.

They have, however, looked back to their best since handing the reins to Solskjaer, with the treble-winning hero of the past having freed key men from their shackles.

He has overseen six successive victories, aided by a welcome return to form for the likes of Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba, with minor tweaks having delivered rich rewards.United legend Giggs told Premier League Productions of the changes Solskjaer has made: "Well, reminding the players how good they are.

"It's little tweaks. It's like you see with golfers. Just a little tweak to the game that someone else on the outside might have seen."Ole's been to a few games before he took over. I was at a game next to him, and he was pointing out to me: 'Look at the full-backs, they're not high enough.' Things that we were used to, things that you associate with Man United teams.

"'OK you score two, we'll score three' and I think he's instilled that back into them that we need to score goals, we need to attack and if we're all higher up the pitch then it just poses the opposition that question.

"All of a sudden teams are going from, 'right it's Man United, we've got a chance today' to actually, 'oh yeah, we'll be defending, we'll be deeper'.

"With the front players that United have got, not only the starting players but the ones coming off the bench, you've seen [Alexis] Sanchez, you've seen [Romelu] Lukaku now having an impact. It rivals any team within the Premier League the firepower that United have got."United have plundered 17 goals across Solskjaer’s six games at the helm while conceding just three.

They are back to within six points of the Premier League’s top four and have more trophy chasing to come in the FA Cup and Champions League.

Klopp tipped by Liverpool legend to dip back into transfer market for Van Dijk partner

Liverpool “might be looking at bringing in a centre-back” during the summer transfer window, according to former Reds star John Aldridge.Jurgen Klopp has seen his defensive options decimated by injury this season, with squad depth at Anfield being tested to the full.

Promising academy graduates have been given senior bows of late, while the versatile Fabinho has been asked to drop back from a midfield berth to provide cover at centre-half.

The Brazilian is accustomed to filling such a role and has not looked out of place, but Aldridge still believes that a more suitable option will be sought at some stage to offer assistance to Virgil van Dijk and Co.

The former Reds striker told the Liverpool Echo on the back of a dogged 1-0 victory over Brighton: “Fabinho once again showed his versatility for Liverpool.“Hopefully he won't have to for much longer with the return of Joel Matip.

“He is likely to make his comeback at the weekend against Crystal Palace and Joe Gomez is on the mend, so I think Liverpool are over that defensive crisis they had, but Fabinho has helped out massively.

“This summer though, Klopp might be looking at bringing in a centre-back. Matip and Dejan Lovren pick up plenty of niggly knocks and and injuries, but Gomez is the one who has been extremely unlucky.

“I expect Matip to return to the defence at the weekend, but Fabinho deserves to keep his place somewhere in this team.”

Klopp has been talking up the qualities of a man acquired from Monaco last summer, with Liverpool benefitting from having acquired a player capable of filling various different positions.

The German tactician has said of Fabinho: "He is a brilliant player and I am happy that he can play [defence] - it's now pretty clear [that he can play in defence].

"It's not like it came one attack after the other from Brighton. We had the ball most of the time, so then it makes sense to have a good footballer in that position."I think Brighton tried a little bit to bring the long balls and [Glenn] Murray around him. That's what they did, by the way, against Joe Gomez in the home game as well.

"He did well in these situations and with the ball it's absolutely clear. He has a defending brain and can do it in different positions, it's good."
