North Korea has put a long-range rocket into position for a April 12-16 launch.

Foreign reporters were shown the launch site in the coastal village of Tongchang-ri in northwestern North Korea.

North Korea says it is launching an observation satellite.

U.S., South Korea, Japan have deployed missile intercepting ships & other military assets.

The pentagon says they are closely monitoring the situation with South Korean, Japanese allies.

China, North Korea's main ally, called for restraint.

"China is concerned and worried about the latest development on the Korean peninsula," Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi said Saturday, according to the official Xinhua news agency.

South Korean media reports say North Korea is also getting ready for a underground nuclear test.
