4 Lankans charged in Singapore -

Four Sri Lankan nationals were charged in a Singaporean court today with stealing seven gold chains from a shop in Little India.
Mohamed Niyabdeen Mohamed Hisam, 31, Mohamed Nafik Nilamdeen Mohamed Nafik, 35, Jayasinghe Mudiyanselage Anushka, 30, and Fahir Mohamed ishak, 29, are accused of having the 'common intention' to use criminal force to steal seven pieces of gold chains totalling S$37,030 (SL Rs. 3.77 million) from sales assistant Thevar Indera Periayyah, 58.
The alleged offence took place at Minora Jewels at Dunlop Street at about 7.35pm on May 30.
The police arrested the first suspect at about 7pm on June 1, after he was detained in Syed Alwi Road by a staff of the jewellery shop. The other three suspects were arrested at Changi Airport at about 9.30pm on June 2, when they were about to leave Singapore.
They are remanded at the central police division lock-up for investigation.
If found guilty they can face up to seven years in jail and caning.
