A bomb explosion took place at Kollupitiya at 1.15 p.m today Monday the 14th of August.
The explosion occurred near the Liberty Plaza shopping complex at Kollupitiya.

Seven persons, including four military personnel, were killed in a bomb explosion in Kolpitty on Flower Road near Liberty Theatre in Colombo Monday around 1:25 p.m. The explosion targeted a Sri Lankan military convoy, initial reports said. Military sources in Colombo said the explosion targeted a senior army officer.
17 persons were rushed to Colombo national hospital.

At least two vehicles were on fire after the explosion. The area has been cordoned off by the Sri Lankan military and police.
