another medal hope of sri lanka was taken away when chinthana vithanage, the sri lankan weight lifter was place 16th in the final count of positions. chinthana carried a total of 293Kgs also making a new sri lankan record by increasing the frmer record f 280Kgs by 13 more Kgs.

now the hopes are with susi and nadeeka lakmali.

meanwhile susi has announced that she will not participate in the 100m race but will participate in the 200m race. lets hope that she can bring back a medal or who know weather sri lanka wud have to wait till yr 2052 to win another medal. the first medal for sri lanka was won in 1948 in 400m mens hurdles and sri lanka won a silver medal.

    Does it matter!

It wasn't good enough to win a medal but he did his best thats what matters in my opinion :)

    Unlike people like
Anuruddha Ratnayake who got excessive publicity for nothing

well i wasn't blaming him... I referred to the publicity he got from the sponsers as you mentioned. The reason for so much publicity for an unknown person (don't think many ever heard of him if it wasn't for those huge adverstising campaign) like him is truely questionable.

and I dont think it was a good idea at all for sending him when he was clearly lacking in techniques. I dont know how he qualifed to be in olympics anyway.

well bro he wasnt lacking n e techniques. if u had watched his game tday u wud have seen dat his opponent was a damn big guy. big guy in da sense a tall person with long arms and stuff. and our guy is considered the shortest guy in da boxing section in this yrs olympics. and also he is da oldest.33 yrs.

annuruddha was trying his best to score but cudnt as he cudnt reach da other guy. he always dodged him. and wen da other guy was punching our guy he easily got da sht as he had long arms and easily reachable.

and also if u had seen da few boxing matches today. all da top winners lost and most of da non winner always won. there was a match between USA and korea and da US guy was da boxing team chapion and imagine he lost da game against a korean who was at an olympics for da first time.

all in all we shud always appreciate wat ever they have done for da country. they have taken the step forward. hope we can send a better team to london in 2012.

well when I meant lacking in techniques I meant in the olympic level. Our guy took a very defensive approach rather than being attacking to at least give an attempt to try and dominate that opponent.

You are right there were quite a few new comers who showed their excellence in other events, thats coz they were upto the olympic level. Having such confidence to go forward like that is quite remarkable. Even Chinthana was one such case.

anyway what i'm saying is, quite well knowing the limitations a person has like in anuruddha case like his height, his arm-reach and his age and etc it is an unwise attempt to promote him in such a "bizzare" manner unless you want to give unnecessary pressure to him.

Even if countries like US lost in boxing they have many other events they can excell in like in swimming.

Anyway still my standing is our sponsors shouldn't have promoted anuruddha in that way.

well da part where u say da sponsors shudnt have publicised him too much. i totally agree wit u in dat. it was also unfair in many ther ways as none of the other 7 members of da sqad were given publicity. not many even knew we had 8 in our team. guys lyk daniel and nadeeka. who knows abt them and u jst go and ask sum person who is nadeeka lakmali and they will they its sum person whome they dont know and ask for daniel lee and u mite get a answer as lyk "english film actor". but ask annuruddha and everyone knows.

yeah thats my point. why did anurudda get the limelight leaving the rest in darkness like as if he was the only one to represent SL.

On the other hand if he had made quite a good impression like chinthana did in the commonwealth games and susi then atleast could say the publicity given was worth it to some extent.
