Hi,

I run my PC 24X7 as a web server. Specifications are :

2 X 80GB HDD's
1 X 14" Color Monitor
1 X DVD ROM
1 X CD-RW

The problem is I'm using around 180W of power! that is ALOT... it contributes around Rs. 2500/- to our house's power bill. Plus I have fan's UPS's Dual Speakers, etc. etc.!!

Does anyone know a good PSU that uses less power?

Thanks

I don't think PSUs with very high efficiency is available here. There best you can get would be the Asus power supplies, which are not as good as companies specialized in that field, such as Antec, Enermax, Thermalright etc.

Try setting up a mini-itx machine for your server. Also having a separate machine for a server, once set up, you can remove the monitor, this will help keep costs even lower. Just a thought. ;)

Monitor issue is not an issue anyways. People can turn off the monitor whenever it is not being used.

I think the power supply efficiency has a lot to do with the power consumption. The Rs.1000 power supplies we find in Sri Lanka are total crap. A good one is at least Rs.5000+ and the ones with 90% or so efficiency can go up to about Rs.20,000 and I don't think you can find them in Sri Lanka, or more appropriately, afford them. :D

For me, another PC is more expensive since my PC already is a lower power PC. :)
