well first of all let me tell you what is pop3.
POP3 :-
Pop3 is a protocol.
now you will say what is a protocol???
Let me explain a bit. Most of the users check emails through web. now when we talk about a web or a web browser , it means http protocol. http is a protocol which is used to communicate between a simple user and a web server. similarly to transfer files on a large scale on the internet FTP protocol is used. Similarly there was a time when pop3 protocol (post office protocol) was used for emails. still now it is used , (but now most of the emails are sent and received from the web). pop3 protocol requires a software to send and receive emails. and obviously you need an email account which has the facility of pop3. Gmail and hotmail supports pop3. (i am not sure that hotmail supports pop3 for 1gb accounts or not)
Outlook Express , thunder bird , incredimail and famous pop3 software. I recommend foxmail , because it is free, easiest to use, and has a beautiful interface.
Benefits of pop3 :-
1) Send emails with embedded images
There is a difference between simply attached image and
embedded images. Embedded image behave like html
emails. you can add description/ text with them. which
is impossible with attached images. Some people copy
paste images from websites , it is call hot linking ,
keep it in mind that hotlinked images may disappear , or
they will not be shown in the places where web access
is restricted and only pop3 protocol is enabled. for example .
image in this email are embeded images
2) Send emails with beautiful background images
3) Send emails with background music of your choice
4) Send emails with your custom signatures
5) manage emails easily

0) Foxmail is a freeware
1) Foxmail is so easy to use
just enter username and password. nothing else is required
2) Foxmail works with hotmail
there can be problems with new hotmail users because i dont think that hotmail is providing pop3 with new 1gb accounts. if your account is a little older then you have pop3 feature
3)Foxmail works with gmail
dont forget to enable pop3 from ur account settings
4)Foxmail works with Yahoo!!!!!!!!!!
you know yahoo don't give pop3 access to its users free of cost. but foxmail has a method to take care of that. that was shocking for me too , but foxmail has done it.
By default the Foxmail interface is in chinese. To use Foxmail in english just go into the installation directory and delete the Chinese.lgb file
