The health authorities say the rat fever (Lepto Spirosis) is fast spreading in the Western Province.
Hundred and fifteen patients were found during the last two months. Forty-seven of them were from the Kalutara District, 41 from the Gampaha District and 27 were from the Colombo District.
Patients were found from Bandaragama, Matugama, Madurawala, Bulathsinhala and Horana in the Kalutara District. Patients were also found from Divulapitiya, Attanagalla, Mirigama and Mahara in the Gampaha District and from Hanwella, Padukka and Maharagama in Colombo District.
Meanwhile a patient admitted to the Matara Base Hospital with rat fever died last week. Doctors warn the public living near paddy fields to take extra care.
