Hello and welcome to day five of the 1st Test - the last day of Muttiah Muralitharan's Test career. India fans - time to stop those desperate rain dances, for they have not worked. There was some rain last night, but the sun is out for now and we are set to start on time at 9.45am. The weather is quite fickle, so things could change later today... if India survive long enough. Can Murali pick those two wickets to reach 800?

I am Nitin Sundar, starting off commentary for the day.

    India survive until lunch.

Praveen wants a filmi ending to proceedings: "Is it possible to have a theatrical climax for this match? The moment Murali picks his 800th victim, it should start pouring, just like typical Indian movies."

The euphoria can wait for a while however, since Sri Lanka have a few things to worry about at lunch. India seemed like they would fold easy after Dhoni and Harbhajan went early today, and Malinga and Murali were set to script an early finish. However, Laxman has stood there like a rock helped by Mithun and Ishant, to wipe out the deficit and take India to a lead of 48. While that has saved them from an innings defeat, it also means Sri Lanka need to bat that much longer to knock off the runs. There is NO SIGN of rain in Galle for now, but we all know how fickle the weather can be. Sri Lanka have comprehensively outplayed India and deserve to win this... Murali deserves 800.. How will this play out after lunch? Join us at 12.40pm local time, and Kanishkaa Balachandran will take you through the second session. Check out Sriram Veera's bulletin which should be in anytime. For the moment, this is Nitin Sundar signing off.
