In many Buddhist texts, the Buddha said his teachings would not disappear suddenly but decline gradually over time.
Common signs of decline mentioned include:
People focusing more on rituals, status, or arguments than actual practice.
Monks or followers becoming less disciplined.
Fewer people deeply understanding or practicing meditation and ethics.
Shorter attention spans and stronger attachment to greed, anger, and distraction.
The idea is that the teaching survives in books and temples, but real understanding becomes rarer.
