Thawa add karamu.Following are the entry-tier, ultra-budget subsidiaries that are explicitly created or owned by horological giants to target the lowest price spectrum.
These secondary sub-brands utilize the massive manufacturing power, technology, and movements of their legendary parent companies while keeping retail prices incredibly low.
Seiko Watch Corporation
- Lorus: Launched by Seiko in Europe in 1982. It was designed specifically to offer high-design quartz and digital watches at a rock-bottom price point, heavily relying on Seiko’s technological advancements.
- Alba: Created by Seiko in 1979 for younger consumers and select global markets. Much like Lorus, it leverages robust, mass-produced Seiko quartz and automatic movements.
- Pulsar: Originally an American company famous for the first LED digital watch, it was acquired by Seiko in 1978. For decades, it filled the mid-to-lower budget tier for Seiko, before being consolidated under the Alba division in 2023.
Citizen Watch Co.
- Q&Q: Short for "Quantity and Quality," this ultra-budget subsidiary is wholly owned by Citizen. They are incredibly inexpensive (often $10–$40) and operate reliably because they use the workhorse movements from Miyota, Citizen’s movement manufacturing arm.
- Caravelle: Historically established as the budget-friendly sibling line to Bulova, Caravelle became part of the Citizen family when Citizen bought the Bulova Watch Company. It serves as an accessible entry point for classic style without paying Bulova or Citizen prices.
The Swatch Group
- Flik Flak: While the Swatch Group owns high-end titans like Omega, Breguet, and Longines, Flik Flak is their absolute lowest-tier, hyper-budget brand. It makes highly durable, washable fabric-and-plastic Swiss quartz watches strictly designed to help kids learn how to tell time.
- Swatch: Even though it names the entire conglomerate, the original Swatch plastic line serves as the high-volume, budget-friendly gateway to Swiss watchmaking, keeping entry prices low while funding the group's luxury arms.
Timex Group
- Helix: Launched by the Timex Group as an ultra-affordable, youth-centric sub-brand primarily for emerging global markets. It acts as the gateway to Timex, offering highly accessible sporty analog and digital models well below standard Timex pricing.
Rolex and Tudor: Tudor was originally founded by Rolex's creator, Hans Wilsdorf, to offer a more affordable wristwatch that still maintained dependable quality. Often nicknamed the "poor man's Rolex," Tudor delivers robust mechanical engineering and iconic styling at a fraction of the cost of its parent company.
Fossil Group and Zodiac: While primarily a fashion-watch house, the Fossil Group owns the historic Swiss tool-watch brand Zodiac, which functions at a much more accessible market level than legacy independent Swiss dive brands.
Hajime Asaoka and Kurono Tokyo: Hajime Asaoka is an elite independent Japanese watchmaker who crafts bespoke, ultra-high-end horology costing tens of thousands of dollars. To make his distinct Art Deco design DNA accessible to the general public, he launched Kurono Tokyo. These watches use reliable, mass-produced automatic movements (like the Miyota 9000 series) while maintaining the striking aesthetics of his premium brand at a fraction of the cost.

MB&F and M.A.D.
MB&F (Maximilien Büsser & Friends) and M.A.D.Editions are closely linked watch brands created by Maximilien Büsser to showcase extreme mechanical creativity at two vastly different price points. While MB&F produces highly exclusive, ultra-complex "Horological Machines" that cost tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars, M.A.D.Editions was launched as a parallel project to bring that same avant-garde design language to an accessible enthusiast price point (typically around CHF 2,900). The "M.A.D." name draws inspiration from the brand's mechanical art galleries.
