If a number is divisible by 36 then it's got to be divisible by 4 and 9.  The divisibility of 4 depends on the last two digits divisible by 4. So this narrows it down to either 52 or 56. Hence the number is of the form either ab52 or ab56.The divisibility of 9 depends on the addition of the digits being a multiple of 9.  (A number is divisible by 3 or 9 if the sum of its digits is divisible by 3 or 9, respectively. Note that this does not work for higher powers of 3.)</blockquote>
