අලුත් අවුරුද්ද සමරමු!
එක්සේසත් කළ අප මාතෘ භූමියේ එක්සිත්ව සතුටින් සොම්නසින් ගත කෙරෙන පළමු අලුත් අවුරුද්ද උදාවී තිබේ. එක්සේසත් කළ මවුබිමේ හදවත් යා කිරීමට එළඹුණා වූ මේ නව වසර යොදා ගත යුතු බව මාගේ අදහසයි. සිංහල සහ දෙමළ ජනතාව එක්ව පවත්වන මේ අලුත් අවුරුදු උළෙල අප අතර පවතින සංස්කෘතික සබැඳියාව වටහා ගැනීමට තිබෙන හොඳම ජාතික උළෙලකි. එය අප දේශයේ ජනතා හදවත් යා කිරීමට තිබෙන අනඟි අවස්ථාවක් ලෙස අප භාරගත යුතුය.
අප වසර දහස් ගණනක් තිස්සේ රැගෙන ආ සිරිත් විරිත් කෙරෙහි ඔවුන් යොමු කරවා එම වටිනා සංස්කෘතික දායාදයන් ඔවුන් වෙත පැවරීම ද ජාතිය සතු වගකීමකි. ඒ සඳහා සියලු නිවෙස්හි නව අවුරුදු චාරිත්ර වාරිත්ර නොපිරිහෙලා ඉටු කරනු ඇතැයි මම බලාපොරොත්තු වෙමි.
සිංහල, දෙමළ අලුත් අවුරුද්දෙන් පිළිබිඹු වන්නේ අප සතු එක්සත් බවත් උදාරත්වයත් ය.
අපගේ උදාරත්වය පෙනෙන පරිදි නව වසර සතුටින් සොම්නසින් ගත කිරීමට හැකි වේවා!

This is the first New Year being celebrated in harmony and contentment since the Motherland was unified.
It is my belief that these New Year festivities should seek to further unite our people in heart and mind. The New Year celebrations by Sinhalese and Tamils alike are most appropriate in recognizing the kinship among us.
This is the continuance of strong cultural traditions that strengthen the bonds among the people of our land.
The Government has carried out all necessary measures to bring the joy and meaning of the New Year closer to the people. To this end we have sought to bring prosperity to the nation through agricultural development and encouraging an ethical way of life.
The true spirit of the New Year should be felt most by our children who make up the future generation. It is our responsibility as a nation to teach them the best values and traditions preserved through thousands of years and bestow upon them the cultural heritage that has enriched our nation.
Towards this end, it is my wish that every household will carryout the New Year traditions with hope of auspicious beginnings for the future.
I trust that this Sinhala and Tamil New Year which reflects the unity and pride of our nation will be celebrated by all in the spirit of joy, peace, sharing and contentment which will lead us to a future of prosperity.

தாய்நாடு ஐக்கியப்படுத்தப்பட்ட பின்னர் இணக்கமான மற்றும் திருப்தியான நிலையில் கொண்டாடப்ப டும் முதலாவது புதுவருடம் இதுவாகும்.
இது போன்ற புதுவருட பண்டிகைகள் எமது மக்களை இதயத்தாலும் மனதாலும் மேலும் ஐக்கியப்படுத்தும் வகையில் அமைய வேண்டும் என்பது எனது நம் பிக்கையாகும். சிங்களவர்களாலும் தமிழர் களாலும் ஒரே வகையில் கொண்டாடப்படும் புதுவருட கொண் டாட்டங்கள் எமக்கிடை யிலான உறவுகளை அங்கீகரிப்பதற்கு மிகவும் பொருத்தமானவை யாகும்.
எமது நாட்டு மக்களிடம் உள்ள பிணைப்புகளை மேலும் வலுப்படுத்தும் பலமான கலாசார பாரம்பரியங் களின் தொடர்ச்சியாகவே இதனைக் காண முடிகின்றது. மக்களிடம் புதுவருடத்தின் மகிழ்ச்சியையும் அர்த்தத்தையும் கொண்டு வருவதற்குத் தேவையான அனைத்து நடவடிக்கை களையும் அரசாங்கம் செய்துள்ளது. விவசாய அபிவிருத்தி மற்றும் வாழ்க்கை நெறிமுறை கள் மூலம் நாட்டுக்கு சுபீட்சத்தை கொண்டுவர நாம் ஆவன செய்துள்ளோம்.
எதிர்கால பரம்பரையான எமது பிள்ளைகளே புதுவருடத்தின் உண்மையான தார்ப்பரியத்தைப் பெரிதும் உணர்ந்து கொள்ள வேண்டியவர்களாவர். ஆயிரக்கணக்கான வருடங்களாகப் பாதுகாக்கப்பட்டுவரும் சிறந்த விழுமியங்கள் மற்றும் பாரம்பரியங்களை அவர்களுக்குப் போதிக்க வேண்டியது ஒருதேசம் என்ற வகையில் எமது பொறுப்பாகும்.
அத்துடன் எமது நாட்டை வளப்படுத்தியுள்ள கலாசார மரபுரிமைகளையும் அவர்களிடம் கையளிக்க வேண்டும். ஒவ்வொரு குடியிருப்பும் புதுவருட பாரம்பரியங்களை எதிர்காலத்தின் சுபமான ஆரம்பத்துக்கான நம்பிக்கையுடன் மேற்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்பது எனது விருப்பமாகும்.
எமது நாட்டின் ஒற்றுமையையும் பெருமையையும் பிரதிபலிக்கும் இந்த சிங்கள - தமிழ் புதுவருடம் மகிழ்ச்சி, சமாதானம், பகிர்ந்து கொள்ளல் மற்றும் திருப்தியுறுதல் போன்ற உணர்வுடன் அனைவராலும் கொண்டாடப்பட்டு எம்மை எதிர்கால சுபீட்சத்துக்கு இட்டுச் செல்லும் என நம்புகிறேன். அனைவருக்கும் மகிழ்ச்சிகரமான புதுவருட வாழ்த்துக்கள்.
