Message: <blockquote data-quote="Scarface" data-source="post: 20312015" data-attributes="member: 150267">Sri Lanka nationwide inflation rises to 5.3 percent in May 2016Tue, Jun 21, 2016, 07:04 pm SL Time, ColomboPage News Desk, Sri Lanka.June 21, Colombo: Sri Lanka's nationwide inflation in May 2016 determined under the new National Consumer Price Index (NCPI) rose to 5.3 percent from 4.3 percent recorded in April 2016, on an year-on-year basis, the Department of Census and Statistics reported on Tuesday.The NCPI for all items for the month of May 2016 increased by 1.88 percent to 113.7 from 111.6 in April 2016. This increase was due to the increase in expenditure value of food items by 0.91percent and by 0.97percent in non-food items.The Year-on-Year inflation of Food Group reported for the month of May 2016 was 4.8 percent while that for Non-Food Group was 5.5 percent.On year on year basis, contribution of food commodities to inflation was 2.13 percent in May 2016 compared to May 2015. Contribution of Non food items was 3.07 percent.The change in the NCPI measured on an annual average basis increased to 2.6 percent in May 2016 from 2.4 percent recorded in April 2016.<a href="http://www.colombopage.com/archive_16B/Jun21_1466516041CH.php" target="_blank">http://www.colombopage.com/archive_16B/Jun21_1466516041CH.php</a></blockquote>
