FB eke dala thibune Mr. Sanjiva Weerawarana.. Sanjiva Weerawarana 5 hrs Harsha de Silva this is just an utter lie dude. You know it. If you really want to put even a small dent in reducing our imports, how about the govt putting an immediate (and at least temporary) ban on: - issuing new car permits - bringing in any vehicle that hasn't already been ordered with a permit (basically make all permits null and void immediately) That will reduce the import bill. Why? Because NO RICH PEOPLE pay the proper taxes to bring in luxury vehicles - they ALL buy permits from the likes of you who grant themselves permits with impunity (and grant to others to keep everyone under your dirty thumbs). I've repeatedly called dealers and asked about buying expensive cars (e.g. a Porche SUV) so I can find out about permits and they ALL say they can get whatever permit and save me Rs. 5-10 million on the non-permit price. They do it openly. I called (a month ago) recently about a Honda CRV and even the agent (Stafford Motors) said the same thing.
