Justice claims that which is not claimed by mercy.We can say even God is subject to laws (He should obey his laws) , God is God because he obeys and respects the laws perfectly, some of those are; Justice, Agency, Mercy.So in order to pay a debt to justice, there must be a mediator so that Mercy can claim that.The need for the children of Israel to offer sacrifices was just as a type of things that were to come (the great sacrifice of a 'lamb'). They had the Atonement day which was a representation of the Jesus Christ's atonement (Yom Kippur).Here goes an analogy:A person wants to buy several things for his house so he goes to someone who can lend him money and he asks for money. He signs a contract and he is given the money he wanted. He goes on and spends all his money on car, new house, new furniture, etc. 1 year went by, then another year, and another, and so on until the debt had to be paid completely. The day comes and the creditor comes to claim that which is his.The debtor didn't have money to pay the debt back so he starts begging for mercy.The creditor begs for Justice.What shall be done? Both claims seem to be fair. There comes another person into scene, a mediator who agrees to pay the debt to the creditor but that he will become the creditor. The debtor agrees to pay to the mediator and creditor agrees to receive that which he claims.Both justice and mercy are fulfilled through a mediator. I think that's a good analogy to grasp a little bit the need for the great sacrifice of our LORD Jesus Christ.Now days, the only sacrifice that has been asked by the Lord is "a broken heart and a contrite spirit". We "shall offer up unto me [the Lord] no more the shedding of blood; yea your sacrifices and your burnt offerings shall be done away, for I will accept none of your sacrifices and your burnt offerings"</blockquote>
