The soldier is a beautiful soldier he understands but still does what he has to. In all his past lives he had commited all the sins. After he received his first Vivarana from Depankara Buddha he had committed all the sins other than Musavada, telling lies. This soldier is a beautiful human being for he loves and he is aware of what he is doing.. not because of what he is doing for protecting you.I think it is very selfish to send some one for your own protection and try to console him with wrong definitions of what is against one's own religions basic discipline. I feel sorry for anyone who commits 10 Akusala karmas...In your reply you are committing the 9th Akusala.. So you wouldn't care about others.But Nature has no system to ask your reasons for committing any bad karma.
