Over 40 percent of the construction work is complete, according to project director V. Amaratunga.The construction work will come to a climax in 2016. Amaratunga added that under the project, the southern region's largest railway station will be built at Beliatta.He said the tunnel at Nakuttiya will be the longest tunnel in the country which has an extent of 606 metres.A total of 229 acres belonging to 1,225 families were acquired for the project. Compensation up to Rs. 978 million was paid to them to launch the construction work, the project director said.Amaratunga said another tunnel will be set up at Babatenda which would be 238 metres long.
