While on the other end some scholars say that there is freedom of religion and no punishment for apostasy.The fact is the Prophet Muhammed never punished an apostate by death in his life time afaik. But he gave orders that during a time of war then people who accept Islam and then apostatize...then they should be executed. This is to stop people playing with Islam. People would become muslims for namesake and then apostate so that real muslims feel down. So the punishment of death is not merely for apostasy...but for apostasy + treason. During the time of war apostasy = treason.Also this can only be implemented by a sharia court in an islamic state. You can't just go and kill someone on the street....it must be done by proper authorities. And treason is a huge crime in any country. Many countries punish people who treason with death. Sri Lankan courts also punish srilankans who plot against this country with death. Likewise Islam punished those who treason against it with death.</blockquote>
