I save a stranger's LIFE This happened in mid eighties. I was working for a semi government company in Colombo, which start to import motor cycles from Europe. Since we not had a showroom for those motorcycles, they end up in my office, which had some spare room. Within few months we all realize how bad is this once upon a time world famous bike is. I have no connection whatsoever with these bike sales, but every customer being directed to my office by the security personnel in the gate, and they talk to me first. I try my best to ignore them as much as possible because I feel guilty to be a part of this bike sales. One day a customer came in, and inquire about the bikes, as usual I send him to the sales manager's office without talking to him. Then he came in with the sales manager and spend lots of time looking, checking and negotiating the deal and put a Rs 100 deposit to buy one. So his bike will be ready to pick up next day, and I felt really sorry for him, but cant do anything against my workplace. When I went to work next day he was already waiting in front of my office, and try to talk to me. But I ignore him again. The 2 guys work in my office talk to him and find out all details about him, which make me cry from my heart. He is a poor school teacher from Bandarawela, got a loan from government to purchase this bike, which will definitely ruin his life. Ultimately I decided to risk my job and tell him the truth. I told him everything, including why I am ignoring him and all the other details. My last words to him was "rupiyal seeya paaduwata daalaa night mail eke gedara yanna". He was a middle aged man and I was a young twenty something guy, but he put his hands together and bow towards me and try to worship (wandinna) me. Then he thanked me and said me "puthaa oyaa hithaaganna oyaa mage jeewithe beraa gaththaa kiyalaa" I can still picture him (after 30 odd years) walk towards my office door , turn around and put his hands together bow forward and worship me before gone back home.
