Near the end of construction, I was holidaying in S/L and ask by the contractor to measure everything to finalise the payments up to that stage.  My brother helping him with the measuring tape, I am having a calculator and a notepad  to write down the measurements. He is saying lengths in feet and inches, and ask me to type those numbers in to the calculator.( for example, dahayai hayayi (10' 6'') wadi kireema (x) dolahayi namayayi (12' 9") Then I told him I am typing those numbers as 10.5 x 12.75 because the calculator does not work in inches .  Then he told me, he has done this all his life, and it's the correct way to calculate. Then I had to give him a maths lesson for half an hour and convince him, that I am correct with some practical examples. Then I told him, I am not calculating them, I'll write down as he said, and do the calculations at the end in front of both of us. I calculate his version too, and found it's some 13,000 rupees more than the actual amount. So, be very careful while using a calculator for feet and inches.</blockquote>
