(April 2017) (Learn how and when to remove this template message)Main article: Swami AbhedanandaIn 1922 Swami Abhedananda, the founder of Vedanta Society of New York 1897 and the author of several books, went to Himalayas on foot and reached Tibet, where he studied Buddhistic philosophy and Lamaism. He was one of the skeptics who tried to debunk Nicholas Notovitch and disprove the existence of the manuscript about Jesus in India. However, when he reached Hemis gonpa he found the manuscript which was a Tibetan translation of the original scrolls written in Pali. They contained 224 verses which were essentially the same as that of Notovitch's account. It was originally said to have been taken down from the mouths of some Jewish merchants who came to India immediately after Crucifixion. Afterwards, the scrolls were brought from India to Nepal and around 200AD Makhada (Quaere: Mazadhe) brought them to Tibet where they were kept in the library of Hemis monastery in Leh, Ladakh in Kashmir. He also mentioned that Tibetan translations from the original Pali text were found in various Buddhist monasteries including Hemis. He published these accounts in his book of travels called "Kashmir O Tibetti" and later it has been incorporated in the book Swami Abhedanada's Journey into Kashmir & Tibet published by Ramakrishna Vedanta Math.</blockquote>
