This picture was taken two weeks ago by a zoo visitor. Rhino horns are considered as valuable ingredients in traditional Chinese medicine. Due to the rumour that rhino horn powder had cured a Vietnamese politician's cancer, rhino horns are currently traded on the Vietnamese black market for up to $100,000/kg, more than their weight in gold. In July 2014, a White Cobra was reported missing at Dehiwala Zoo, stolen from a secure area. When the police began to close in on suspects within the Zoo Department, the missing animal was returned to the Zoo.
