The main intention in a Private sector hospital is to earn profit (like any other private sector institution) and nothing else patient care comes next. I know this because I have worked in private sector hospitals as a medical officer.If you know ur Consultant/ Doctor they may cut away the unnecessary lab tests and other investigations and will discharge you quickly from the hospital so that ur hospital stay and bill is minimized, but feel sorry for the other patients b'coz the things mentioned in this thread really does happen.But I want to say that there's nothing like this in Government sector hospitals, they don't get any extra payments what so ever for any tests or investigations. Some recent studies done in Sri Lanka says the patient care given in Government sector hospitals is superior to private sector hospitals. It's quite clear b'coz if a patient in a private sector hospital becomes bad (critically ill) they immediately transfer the patient to a nearby Teaching or General hospital. Furthermore almost all the big Government sector hospitals  (Teaching, Provincial General, District General and General hospitals) in all the districts have all the facilities, equipment and specialist consultants.So better visit a Government sector hospital next time when ur feeling ill...
