Family planning During Mrs Bandaranayaka's government (1970-77) family planning come in to effect in big time. Every CTB bus (there was only CTB at that time ) had at least 2-3 advertisements regarding family planning. Preethi condoms and Mithuri contraceptive pills were introduced during those times. I was only an 8-15 year old during that government , but still remember the advertisements. A taxi driver telling a father, I CAN ONLY CARRY 5 PASSENGERS, IF YOU HAD A LITTLE FAMILY I CAN TAKE THEM ALL. This ad had a picture of father and mother with some 6-7 kids lining up for a taxi (morris minor 1000). And PUNCHI PAWLA RATHTHARAN (this is a family with a son and a daughter) is the main propaganda tool at that time. During recent history in China, and it's policies are the laughing stock in world stage. We all know MAO TSUNG try to eradicate mice, flies, sparrows, mosquitos (five nasty pest animals, I cant remember them all ) and disturb the natural environmental cycle and killed some 100 million people. Again in 80s and 90s they had this one child policy. So, every family only allow to have one child. Now those one child policy kids are in their middle ages and their parents are getting old and walking out of the workforce and in to retirement. Within next decade one working person will have to feed 2 of his/her parents in an old age, on top of his/her family. So you not have to be a rocket scientist to work out what's going to happen if we try to force family planning in a small country like ours. In Australia each child being paid 5000AUD and encourage to have more children some 20-25 years ago. During 90s the government propaganda ad for a family was "HAVE A DAUGHTER FOR DAD, SON FOR MUM, THIRD CHILD FOR THE COUNTRY" Now those good old days gone, but if you have 5 kids you not have to work. Just work around the welfare system and rake up the DOLE, which is better than working full time. My conclusion is, let our people have kids without restricting, and allow the population growth, and let the older generation get the help they deserve from their children (not by just one child or 2 children)
