Scientists agree that the Omicron is quite odd. It does not obey any selection logic, It originated from an immuno-compromised patient, also possibly with a nudge from antiviral treatments that promoted mutations. Some effects of the mutations of Omicron annihilates each other resulting in it's RBD affinity for ACE-2 is decreased. That's why it's less virulent.It might be not the case for the next one. Assuming if Omicron leads to Delta being wiped out there's going to be some chance. But one can only speculate. As I mentioned before, there are two camps already. Some argue Delta will be phased out, but others argue Omicron will fade out & Delta will dominate again. Both have valid arguments and reasons.
