A group of thugs that had been apprehended by Dodangoda Police for arriving at the residence of a supporter of apolitical Common Candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka at 1.00 a.m., threatened the residents and damaged the residence has been released by Minister of Industrial Development Kumara Welgama. According to information supporters of UPFA presidential candidate Mahinda Rajapakse had arrived at the residence of Gen. Fonseka’s supporter at 1.00 a.m.in a double cab bearing Reg. No. 250-2396, threatened her with death and later assaulted the other occupants and damaged the residence. The group of thugs had been lead by Member of Dodangoda Pradeshiya Sabha Dampal Hadungoda, a Coordinating Secretary of Minister Kumara Welgama. Minister Welgama is the chief of the Kalutara District election operational committee of Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse.
Later, Dampath Handungoda and other thugs were apprehended by Dodangoda Police when residents made a complaint. However, Minister Kumara Welgama had come to Dodangoda Police station and pressurized the OIC to release the thugs.
