Divorce is not necessarily "illegal", it's simply not recognized since there's no divorce law here in the Philippines. Said indirect prohibition only applies to marriages between two Filipinos though. That said, if the marriage is between a Filipino and a foreign national, divorce secured abroad (in the foreign spouse's home country) can be recognized by Philippine courts provided that there is proof that the said foreign country allows divorce, and that a divorce decree has been issued and made final.</blockquote>
