If not for idiotic lot we would have successfully contained Covid 19 (like Malaria, Polio, measles etc) and that would have been sufficient to reap the benifits of investment in this sector for past decades.We have also invested massively in irrigation (eg Mahaweli) and the results are evident if you go out from Colombo.Economic theories does not support such risky investments but the returns on peoples lives are massive.We have largest number of CIMA accountants and students outside Uk, our Engineers were employed from Traffic Lights (Uniroad) to many more projects and if we did not invest in this area we would have got Foreign Consultants.I do not agree that curruption was 10% it was more than 50% in some known cases including (in)famous SilRedi case where there was evidence to prosecute.In many cases it was lack of evidence and lack of competancy that led to non prosecution or discharge.I do believe that there is No Free Lunch, but as a Govt there is an obligation to provide some basic services even UK has NHS and almost free education till Tony Blair introduces fees to Uni. That is the reason that UK is better than US in health and financial hub of the world( result of good education).We need reforms in Education but just privtising everything is not the solution.Does any private firm will   invest  any of main five reservoir projects? NoAll our good reforms From White Paper in Education when Ranil was MOE were abandoned due to JVP inciting people against good reforms. This applied to all kinds of reform in other  sectors as well (most recent being Railway) . Some reforms were done just  steam roll over eg Ports Authority under Minister Lalith and became a huge success!!Fake news and people such as  channa Jayasumana, Nalin Silva,Tissa , Wimal, AKD, Tilvin, Vasu,UdayG have objected to reforms in many sectors including energy , education, health etc . this is the problem we are facing. our people 's brainwash by this very opportunistic lot who never wanted reforms for private reasons.(mainly their vote base is with TUs in these sectors who are averse to reforms.</blockquote>
