මානව හිමිකම් කොමිසම SF හමුවෙයි HRC to review recommendations Thursday, 04 March 2010 15:45 ( 4 Votes ) By Jamila Najmuddin The Human Rights Commission (HRC) is to visit General Sarath Fonseka next week to see if recommendations given by the commission on his detention facilities have been implemented, HRC sources told Daily Mirror online. The HRC which had visited General Fonseka recently submitted a report to the relevant authorities by the HRC Commissioner and certain recommendations have been mentioned to improve the facilities offered to the General. “A team of officers from the inquiries and investigations department of the HRC visited the General last week to see for ourselves whether his living conditions are satisfactory. We were satisfied but have submitted certain recommendations,” the HRC source said. The HRC is also expected to visit Fonseka next week to see if the recommendations have been implemented and the HRC will continue to be in contact with the relevant authorities, the source said. “We are acting within our mandate. General Fonseka is a civilian so it is our duty to check if he is treated normally with the basic facilities provided to him,” the source said. Amongst some of the recommendations mentioned are to improve the ventilation and medical facilities offered to the General. President Mahinda Rajapakse had late last month in an interview with the Hindu said that General Fonseka was getting luxury treatment in custody and had been given a luxury flat, the Navy Commander’s Chalet.
