Just mentioned my experience of a guy I knew who went missing in Malaysia. He was overstaying the visa and got arrested by the CID. As the formality, not knowing what happened to him, his family informed the Sri Lankan embassy. Finally after two weeks his family received the message by embassy saying that he is in jail. Through out that two weeks of time he was in jail. And the embassy was informed on the first day he was arrested even though they didn’t take no action or informed relatives. Finally when we asked embassy about this, one of the staff said, “we don’t have enough information to do anything about illegal stayers. If they’re legally living in Malaysia, we already have their information. This case we didn’t have any info. We didn’t know who was his employer or his whereabouts. So how come we do anything about him? And if we’re going to answer all those phone calls on illegal immigrants from SL and work on each case every time we receive calls, there will be no other work for us to do. He had been here willingly and he already knew the risk. So, don’t come and blame us.”</blockquote>
