Most places don’t rent to students because we don’t have a credit score here yet- No jobs, no bills under your name - means they don’t trust you would pay. So they ask for large deposits- six months to one year. This is actually against the law but this is how things are done here. Even if you have guarantors they don’t want to give students most of the time. Looking for houses takes time- you have to email letting agencies, set up viewing appointments etc.Its not like in SL st all! <img src="https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t4b/1.5/16/1f615.png" alt="😕" class="fr-fic fr-dii fr-draggable " style="" /> Life in SL is so simple in comparison- when you consider certain things. From our experience- Accommodation is something you have to sort out before coming here- set up viewing appointments or Ideally, get the help of a friend or relative to visit the place for you so you can move on to finalizing it! Even if you find a place, the process to move in takes 2-3 weeks. If you are looking at staying in an air bnb or hotel- it is very expensive when you convert to rupees. Easily closes upto or around £100 a day! So if this is what you want to do- account for those expenses before hand so you will not stress! If not sort out a place to stay with a Friend or relative till you find one. Please don’t come here unprepared (in terms of accommodation) especially if your coming with children! My heart aches listening to stories of people trying to find accommodation and they are all families with kids. It’s terribly cold out here <img src="https://static.xx.fbcdn.net/images/emoji.php/v9/t7b/1.5/16/1f61e.png" alt="😞" class="fr-fic fr-dii fr-draggable " style="" />! We, as Asians, take time to get used to it! So pleeaaase look at accommodation options earlier so you have ample time to sort things out! My university ( BCU) has started differing students to January because most of them are unable to sort of accommodation. Its a real struggle. We were lucky to have found one. Writing this in hopes of giving a head up/ gently warning to those looking to come here with family! You need to think way ahead if your bringing little ones here- it’s a huge change for us adults, it’s even more overwhelming for children!
