On top of that, they pile us with loans which we have to repay. It’s clear really who our true “friend” is from an international perspective. If China was our “true” friend, as they claim, they would be buying more from us and help our industries and businesses prosper. They would help generate more wealth in Sri Lanka. Instead, they take the little that we have. Loan sharks aren’t your friends. It’s quite the opposite with the US. They haven’t piled us with debt. They have invested in our economy by not only buying most of our goods and ensuring we get foreign exchange and food on our table. But also by giving us duty free access to many of our goods.
