SRI LANKANS I would like to add few more good/bad habits among sri lankans. Punctuality is the first one. Most of sri lankans never keep an appointment or come to work ONTIME. It's really visible when you invite some sri lankans for a b'day party, you ask them to come at six, hoping to cut the cake at 7 . But the host himself not ready to start the party until 7. Then guests start to trickle in one by one up to nine, so what's the use of mentioning a fixed time for them to come in. 99% of people living in developed countries are punctual to the minute. Invite them for a party, you only have to open your door once, because they respect the time. Sri lankans always happy to donate money, goods, and 'time' to people less fortunate than them. But sometimes it's done in such a way, it do more harm than good. When a customer pay for his goods or services, he may ask the cashier to keep the change. It's not the way you should donate money as a kind person. Westerners always wait for their 5 cent change from the cashier, and may donate $100 to a charity next moment. We should not encourage cashiers to think that a person who accept the correct change (may be very little amount ) is greedy. Competition among fellow sri lankans are another thing. This is not only in sri lanka, but also in expat sri lankans living overseas as well. When someone bought a four wheel drive, their friends also buy one, but never ever go off road. The main aim of that useless purchase is not to be second to their friend.
