The two luxury train services, Expo Rail and Rajadhani Express launched yesterday are facilitated by the government and operated by the Sri Lanka railways. However the luxury coaches are serviced and marketed by the private sector.The launch of the public private sector participatory project was officiated under the patronage of Transport Minister Kumar Welgama and Deputy Minister Rohana Dissanayake. First to take off was Expo Rail operated by Expolanka Holdings at 7:20 a.m. from Fort Railway station and the Blue Line Company’s Rajadhani Express departed at 3:15 p.m. in the evening. The new luxury train service will be most beneficial to locals and foreigners who seek to travel in comfort and enjoy the scenic view en route. The Railway Department hopes to increase its revenue through the operation of these luxury trains and the newly generated income is to be utilized for the development of railway services.The luxury coaches attached to the trains are fully air-conditioned, carpeted, have first class toilet facilities, free Wi-Fi, side racks to store passenger luggage, on board snacks, tea/coffee and are serviced by stewards.
