In 1994 GLP and late CV Goonaratna said this Airbus purchase (about 6 ?) was illegal hence they will cancel it. It was an election promise !! There was a commission appointed for this. As far as I know there was no illegality in the deal and contract was not cancelled abd we purchased these aircrafts and they did a commendable service to uplift our fleet under Emirates(49%). But MR deported MrPeter Hill and bought the Emirate shares back (there is a story behind this I do not know the truth of that). Now again going to sell but who will buy and for what price?
Under MR we contracted to buy 23 new aircrafts under Mr. Kapila Chandrasena and Airbus admitted corruption and payments to Sri Lanka and gave details of money trail. But we know Mr. Chandarsena was not even prosecuted yet!! (he was Chairman of Srilankan under MR and 51 day illegal govt)
But I cant remember Newsweek publishing such an item as lead story as shown. May be it was inside . News week Archive is available online for subscribers and can confirm it this is true by a subscriber!!
