The Case of Vavunatheev : The return of the Tigers?

I don't think I need to restate what has happened. Two police offers killed in Vavunatheev at the check point in the dead of the night, the night of so called Mahaveer celebration / mourning of the dead. Some photos of the dead LTTE leader's face-on-a-map of so called Eelaam and a cake surfaced. Sent the south into a melt-down.

And it seems, the dreaded LTTE is back again killing....nine years after complete decimation. At least if you are to believe Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, aka Karuna and Major Ajith Prasanna. It was this Ajith Prasanna who gave his famous Facebook live commentary that a LTTE bus bomb had gone off in Kandy.

It was Karuna who tweeted asking people to remember who he really is, Karuna of Batti. Same man who said that Pottu Amman, LTTE spy chief is alive in Norway and probably springing his spy network back into gear. Both, Karuna and Major Prassana are die-hard supporters of Mahinda Rajapaksa of SLPP, but that's not what is odd about this case.

May be the LTTE killers are back. However, the timing seems odd.

Look at the timing the terror outfit used to ceremoniously raise its ugly head again. It is Mahaveer time, the time of great tension between the Tamil community and Sinhala community. It is the time Sinhala diehards ALWAYS see an occasional LTTE flag and hero remembrance. They REFUSE to see mothers, wives, children weeping near the graves of their loved ones. Sinhala hardliners forget that these are human beings and they have a right to mourn their dead - enemy combatant or otherwise. It is also the time North and East Tamils clash with authorities and police asking for their right to mourn their dead. Emotions run high and some Tamils may actually think it would have been better if the LTTE was running their land.

Perfect timing for a comeback isn't it? Or is it too perfect?

It is not an exaggeration to say that Mahinda Rajapaksa and Gotabaya Rajapaksa are the nemesis of the LTTE. They managed to completely wipe out the most dangerous and the most ruthless terrorist out fit in the world and they did it their own way and will probably do it again if they have to. They managed to assemble the most formidable and committed military-intelligence machinery the 30 year war had ever seen. They used it ruthlessly and beat LTTE at their own blood-spilling game.

That is why the timing of "Comeback Tigers" seems really odd. Rajapaksa who got defeated is almost back. Only a dozen or so parliamentary seats are needed to secure his actual legitimacy. It is a time when right-minded people are pushing back on Rajapaksa doctrine. Pushing back on Rajapaksa's claim that the country's security is endangered, that LTTE is on the verge of staging a comeback.
