Sukithapura or Sukithapurawara is to establish initial infrastructure facilities for the major development project. With an allocation of Rs. 10 billion for 2016 alone, the project is to renovate and restructure main roads as well as access roads, resolve issues with flooding, garbage and sewerage problems under its short-term goals. </p><p></p><p>Borella, Kesbewa, Kottawa, Kaduwela, Piliyandala, Battaramulla, Kadawatha, Mahara, Meerigama and Kalutara are some of the towns that are to be developed under the project. “Colombo is to be made into a commercial city and all administrative facilities are to be shifted outside the city,” Project Director Mahinda Withanarachchi said. “The project will also make the necessary infrastructure facilities for this change,” he said. Projects on a smaller scale such as the relocation of Manning Market in Pettah to Peliyagoda will also come under the Sukithapura project.</p><p></p><p> “A transport hub is to be established in Pettah. Under the Sukithapura project we will make the necessary land available by relocating the Manning Market and ensure the infrastructure is available for the project,” Withanarachchi said.
