Megapolis plan to be presented to Government 2 April, 2017 The structural plan for the megapolis development, outlined by the Ministry of Megapolis will be presented to the President and Prime Minister soon, Megapolis and Western Development Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka said. The Megapolis Ministry was set up to solve issues such as garbage disposal, housing for shanty dwellers and draw new traffic plans to avoid traffic jams in busy towns. The ministry plans to develop new cities in Bandaragama, Kottawa, and Kerawalapitiya surrounding the outer circular that will be soon under construction as a part of the mega polis development plan. The minister said around 35 percent of the work on the financial city has been completed and work on the tech city commenced with the participation of Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. “Around 16 organisations are working on the tech city project while three organizations are working on the logistics city. There will be three building at the administrative city on which work will commence this year,” Ranawaka said. He said the ministry has drawn the master plan for transportation, flood reduction and prevention in the western province. The Megapolis Ministry will coordinate with the line ministries in carried out all the projects. ‘The city will be a multi-model transportation hub with Light Rail Transit (LRT) system and Bus Rapid Transport system.
