Marine drive to be extended up to New Kelani bridge: RDA Published : 9:00 am October 12, 2017 By Darshana Sanjeewa Compensation for land acquired by the Road Development Authority (RDA) for the Marine Drive extension project has been paid to some and measures will be taken to pay others as and when funds are available, the Authority said. Speaking to the Daily Mirror, RDA Chairman Nihal Sooriyarachchi said that compensation had been paid to the American Embassy as well as the Hyatt Hotel which was being constructed along the Galle Road, as parts of the property will be used for the extension of the road which will ultimately lead to the Port City. “We have more people to provide compensation for but we will do that as and when we have funds,” he said. Sooriyarachhi explained that the Authority funded the marine drive extension project through funds received from other completed projects. Therefore, plans are underway to submit a proposal in time with the budget for the coming year, requesting funds be allocated for the project. “We have to finish the project soon as it will be connected to the Port City. We are continuing work on the project,” he said. Meanwhile, media reports stated that the China Harbour Engineering Company Limited (CHEC), the developers and the owners of the Colombo Port City project had proposed the extension of the Marine Drive via an underground tunnel, which will ultimately connect with the country’s southern and northern regions. The US $ 150 million project, is most likely to be a Public Private partnership. Quoting a source close to the matter, the media report stated that technical feasibility studies were currently underway. The project will extend the existing Marine Drive through an underground tunnel through Galle Face Green which will then be connected to an elevated highway on the Port City which will be linked to the New Kelani Bridge. - http://mirrorcitizen.dailymirror.lk/2017/10/12/marine-drive-to-be-extended-up-to-new-kelani-bridge-rda/
