If Sajith did not support Karu Jayasuriya openly as he did , there would not have been even a contest for Deputy leader's post and he would have won hands down if contested. It is clear that since he supported Mr. Jayasuriya he also had to fight for the post and just able to muster 8 more than Ravi Kaurnanayaka, who lacks any leadership quality. In fact if he won then UNP would be confined to an elite's party and would deteriorate furhter overnight! The MPs who voted knew and was concerned about loosing their seats in parliament , specially who are comming from rural backgrounds, so they voted to Sajith preventing his exit. But others who are angry , because he challenge Ranil voted against him, though they knew the capabilities of Ravi. Now Ravi and Ranil both are trying to implicate Sajith to the violence and to punish him. It is clear from Ranil's statement where he has named both Sajith and Jayasuriya for vilence. So, this conspiracy theory fails. Ranil wants Sajith out from the party at any cost , but he is reluctanct to take action because of the public backlash, but he is clever and will Sajith succeed is the question.</blockquote>
