They have requested both the UNP  leadership and the Leadership Council to take action against  Samaraweera, forthwith.  The group comprises Ranjith Maddumabandara, Dilip Wedaarachchi, Ashoka  Abeysinghe and several other MPs. The charges need to be responsibly  addressed not only by Samaraweera but also by the Party,the group stated.  According to the group, Samaraweera should, without shaming the Party,  remove himself from all positions he currently holds in the Party until  such time the Court hearings into the case are concluded, while at the  same time, explain to the Party in particular, and the nation at large,  regarding the allegations levelled against him.  While stating that the same law should be applicable to all members of  the Party, the group of members also said that the responsibility of  having to answer to the public and the members at the grassroots had  befallen on the members of the Party.</blockquote>
