We always fear of taking gambles. We always try to follow the safety first policy. Not only we also Pakistan. Teams like Aus, SA they take risks more often, & that is a one reason they been so successful in recent past. Also those games are more interesting & watchable.. It mainly depends on the captain's approach I think.. He is the one who determines whether to take the risk or not. Even in the field setting we are not maintaining closing fielders long enough. If a attacking shot been hit, mathews quick to remove that closing fielder & post him on the boundary. By doing so giving batsmen the easy single & less pressure on him. Also bowler would not be able to bowl enough ball to a batsmen continuously. That's what batsman looking for by taking bit of a risk. . So this in-turns play into batsmans hands. I saw this happen to even with our main strike bowlers. You need to tempted batsmans for big shots. That is where your chance come to pick up a wicket. Yes they may hit a boundry or two, but that is where your chance may also comes. When things are not going your way then you have  buy a wicket. For that you sometimes you have to take a gamble or two. Still Mathews to me, is a holding back captain. Not a one make things happen like Clarke does for australia. But his batting in this test series was outstanding.. Here I am not saying he is worst captain going around & we should look for alternatives. No he is good captaining the side at times.
