Herath will become Sri Lanka’s 13th Test captain since gaining Test status in 1982. He has never led Sri Lanka in any format before. Mathews aggravated his previous calf injury during training on Saturday and failed the fitness Test. Scans showed a minor niggle on his calf which ruled him out of the Australia series recently. The appointed vice-captain, Dinesh Chandimal was also ruled out of the Zimbabwe Test series due to a thumb injury which he sustained during a mercantile match in September. The replacement for Mathews has not been named yet. </blockquote>
