A team of engineers from Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) of Japan carried out technical research in Sri Lanka on the adaptation of this model to the country's environmental background, covering, road, elevation and climate conditions, and fuel quality, along with a study of key engine components used in Sri Lanka. Performance was evaluated through computerized engine data collected from vehicles currently running in Sri Lanka. The Suzuki team also conducted interviews of Sri Lankan WagonR users to better understand their individual driving patterns and usage. Once research was completed, SMC introduced changes to the engine and the hybrid system of the new WagonR Premium to adapt it to local conditions. The Suzuki WagonR Premium hybrid claims to offer more cabin space and enhanced user-friendliness. In terms of safety attributes, the vehicle is installed with front dual airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS) complimented with electronic brake force distribution (EBD) and electronic stability programme (ESP), hill hold control, and pre-tensioners on front seatbelts. With enhanced luggage room and a host of features for added comfort, Suzuki expects the WagonR Premium to perform well in sales.
