Nissan has just unveiled its new 2021 X-Terra SUV for the Middle East, also known as the Terra in other markets. Unlike North America’s Xterra (without a hyphen) based on the F-Alpha platform that was discontinued after the 2015MY, the three-row SUV is built around the latest 2021 Navara. Compared to the existing Terra SUV sold in other markets, the X-Terra has been thoroughly updated inside and out, although the overall shape remains unchanged. Just to make sure there’s no confusion, this is nothing more than a facelift of the Terra, albeit quite a substantial one. The front end now resembles that of the Patrol thanks to the bold new V-motion grille design, sculpted bumper and new headlights featuring modern C-shaped DRLs. Seven exterior colors will be made available to buyers, with the palette also including bright brown and burgundy. The interior meanwhile features premium black and light grey materials, creating a more upscale ambiance. There’s also a fully redesigned dashboard, finished in soft-touch materials. The upper section has a flat design and the center console houses a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display. Also new are some of the SUV’s active safety capabilities, where flagship Platinum grade variants get Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Intelligent Forward Collision Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Driver Alertness and Intelligent Emergency Braking. Like the Navara, the X-Terra now also gets Nissan’s latest three-spoke steering wheel, to go with USB-C and USB-A slots for front and rear passengers. As for powertrain options, there’s a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gasoline unit, sending 165 HP and 177 lb-ft (241 Nm) of torque to all four wheels using a seven-speed automatic gearbox. Customers who need to go off-road will be happy to know that the SUV comes with four-wheel lock, a limited slip differential and an electronic locking rear differential. Nissan’s new 2021 X-Terra SUV will go on sale in the Middle East starting next month. At this point, it’s not known when the Terra in other regions around the world will get the X-Terra’s revisions.
