While we celebrate the many contributions made by the LGBT community to Sri Lanka's culture, society and economy, we also remember the many struggles they have endured throughout. For far too long, Sri Lanka's LGBT community have faced immense discrimination and harassment. In 2016, this can no longer be tolerated. All Sri Lankans hope and aspire for a better future, shared with our loved ones, the ones whom we freely choose to love. If we, Sri Lankans, are to move ahead as a nation, we need to create a society where we can all live in dignity, a society that is just and free. Until we do, our potential as a nation can never be realised.
