Executive Committee member of the joint CEB unions, Ranjan Jayalal  and Executive Committee member of the joint NWSDB unions, Upali  Ratnayake say they do not accept the government's proposal to increase  salaries by 25 percent.   They say their aim is to get a 45 percent salary increase for the workers. Jayalal told ColomboPage that the unions would continue with their  agitation campaigns until the government grants the workers a 45 percent  salary hike.   He added that the protest organized by the CEB employees today would  continue as planned with the participation of CEB employees from all  parts of the country. "Our demand is a 45 percent salary increase and we will fight for it," he said. The protest is scheduled to commence at 12 noon today outside the  CEB head office in Fort and CEB employees commenced gathering outside  the head office from this morning. The Cabinet of Ministers last week decided to increase the salaries  of these employees by 18 percent while granting an additional monthly  allowance of Rs. 2,500. The CEB, NWSDB and CPC employees rejected the proposed salary hike  and the government has now proposed a 25 percent salary hike. While the CPC trade unions have decided to negotiate with the  authorities the CEB and NWSDB unions have rejected the new offer.CP</blockquote>
