Writing a letter to the  Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Johnston Fernando, Councilor Salley  pointed out that the stock of dates was meant for distribution among the  needy Muslims during the Ramadan period. He further alleged that the  ministers who received their portions are now trying to sell those dates  at Pettah market. He has directly accused the Deputy Minister of External Affairs  Neomal Perera who accepted the dates officially from the Saudi  government despite previous method of taking over the consignment by the  mosque. “Those are two kilo grams packets and clearly printed that  ‘From Saudi Arabia – Not for sale” Salley wanted the Minister to direct the Consumer Affairs Authority  to look for the matter to arrest the dates consignment. “Muslim traders  in Pettah market dialed me and informed the incident.
