11 things to avoid when using Google Adsense If you are new to Google Adsense, there are certain things to avoid to keep your account intact. Here is a list for the beginner who is just starting out with Google Adsense. Never click your own ads – It may seem tempting to click your own ads, but what you are really doing is theft. Adsense is the publisher side of Google Adwords. Even if you get away with it for a little while you will slip up and that will result in a banned account. Some people think they can fool the system by going to public locations, or asking friends to click on their ads. This never works. Be careful about traffic networks - Some bought traffic sellers use undesirable pop-unders and pop-ups which are against the Google Adsense Terms of Service (TOS). Nobody likes pop-ups and most clicks are accidental. This non-targeted traffic is bad for your Adsense account and for the advertiser. Do not put Adsense ads near other media located on your website – Invalid clicks are clicks that are generated when a individual does not stay on the advertisers site for very long. If the ads are too close to click-able media Google will penalize and take away clicks, and this will affect your overall Click-Through-Rate (CTR). A higher CTR that converts well for the advertiser, will usually mean that Google will send you the more premium advertiser. If your ad does not convert you could see a eventual drop in Cost-Per-Click (CPC). Never try to customize the code - Google does not want their Ad code messed with. Any attempt to do so, sends a red flag to Google and this could get your account banned. In your Adsense account you can customize colors and make specific adjustments, but outside your Adsense account messing with the code is strictly forbidden. This includes the use of frames and pop-ups. Never use Adsense code in emails - This is for your website only. Google will not tolerate spam. Never ask your viewers to click on your ads - You cannot suggest to your viewers/users to “Please visit our sponsors” or any of that nonsense. In addition you should never try to trick your users into clicking on your ads. This will likely result in a permanent ban. Never place Adsense ads on a useless page - You must have a website that meets certain requirements for web page quality, and/or offers a service to your users. Never place Adsense ads on illegal websites – Illegal according to Google Adsense policy includes porn, gambling, hate-related, voilence, hacking, password cracking, drug-use or drinking, or sites that sell weapons and/or ammo. Never place Adsense ads on websites that have copyrighted content– Pirated movies and music are popular on the Internet, but is a sure way to get your Google Adsense account banned. Also you may not link to a page that has copyrighted content. To do so would be to forfeit your account. Only use supported languages - According to Google Adsense TOS, ads are only allowed on pages with supported languages. Click here for Languages AdSense supports.
